We are heartbroken to share the passing of Wendy Cowles, past president and devoted volunteer of the Branford Food Pantry, who gave her heart and soul to our mission since 1983.
Wendy touched countless lives through her kindness, dedication, and joy—especially when it came to children, whose visits to the pantry she cherished deeply. Wendy, a retired pediatric nurse, was a Shore Publishing Beacon Award recipient in 2015 for the selfless work she did to help fulfill the shoreline community’s promise as a place of opportunity, well-being and safety for all. In addition to her work at the Branford Food Pantry, Wendy helped establish Feed Branford Kids, a program that addresses food insecurity seven days a week. The goodwill she has generated over the years has made her an impressively effective collaborator, linking those in need with those agencies best able to help.
A celebration of life will be held this summer. We will share details as they become available.
Wendy will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of compassion and service will live on in everything we do at the Pantry. ![]()
